Have you ever wanted to drop everything you’re doing and just travel around? My former roommate, Craig Mullins, did just that. We were both freshmen at the University of Missouri in Columbia. Craig had not been feeling like he belonged at the University. He didn’t feel like part of the crowd. He felt like he didn’t belong. He decided that instead of staying in college and being miserable, his time would be better spent if he would travel across Europe and blog about his experience. His blog, “Whatever it is I’m Looking For,” follows his journey from college freshman to amateur travel blogger.
In Craig’s own words: “From childhood until college, I was always far above my peers in intelligence (though many of the people I have met in college can brag the same.) I was placed in accelerated education classes and in the long run wound up scoring a 35 on my ACT. My range of general interests has always landed even further away from the norm than my IQ. I am more than a bit eccentric. At sixteen, I was already a quantum physics buff and by seventeen, I was working with extremely powerful magnets in fairly successful attempts to invent a new type of engine that uses very little energy input. However, despite my deep love for science, I consider myself more of an artist. I’ve written a screenplay, several short stories, most of a novel (which will be finished at some point) and way too much poetry; I’ve dabbled in film and the visual arts and I am a talented keyboard/piano player and although I’m not very good at it, I’ve at least attempted to play a mandolin.”
So, Craig not only is an amateur traveler, but also an amateur pianist, scientist, and writer. He has already captured the attention of the newspaper in his hometown of Wentzville, Missouri. He has a growing fan base and hopes to have even more readers to follow his travels. His story is very unique and exciting; most kids just go home defeated after dropping out of college, but Craig took on the challenge of traveling abroad instead. He figured that his trip would be his one shot for fame, happiness, and perhaps finding Whatever it is He’s Looking For. With only his backpack and a few meager possessions, he flew from St. Louis, Missouri, to London. He is still in London for the week, but he plans to visit Paris, Amsterdam, Rome, and many other exciting destinations, and he plans on couch surfing to conserve money.

Kuala Lumpur sightseeing just got easier with the recent introduction of the KL Monorail & KL Hop-On Hop-Off One Day Unlimited Ride package. Although it’s quite a mouthful to say, the Malaysia tourism promotion makes it effortless for tourists to access the many major tourist spots in Kuala Lumpur within one day.
For just RM20 per person (adult or child), pass-holders can enjoy unlimited travel around Kuala Lumpur in any single day on two modes of transportation – the KL Hop-On Hop-Off (KL HOHO) bus and the KL Monorail train. Once you have booked a holiday you need to consider how to make your hard earned spending money go further whilst abroad. Here are just a couple of good tips regarding eating out.
All café’s restaurants in Spain will typically offer what is termed as Menu del Dia, or the Menu of the Day in English. Normally served over several hours throughout lunchtime. It normally includes a soup or salad, along with a main course with a side dish and dessert – all for one fixed price. The Menu del Dia is usually the most economical way to eat in Spain. Reputedly it is a government instruction that establishments offer an economical meal for workers.
On a recent trip to Spain we stopped for lunch and for the Menu del Dia I was offered a free bowl of olives and bread to set off my taste buds to start with, followed by a first course of delicious traditional Spanish soup, followed by a filling main course of chicken and chips (patatas fritas), followed by a delicious rice pudding, (arroz con leche). The cost of these delights was €8 per person. Most offer a drink of wine or a beverage as a swop for the pudding. Fuelled up for the rest of the day one can have a light snack for an evening meal. To go with it wine can be found in local supermarkets for €0.75 per bottle or even less!
Spain also has a number ‘all you can eat’ establishments, mainly in the tourist areas and again the prices are set around €8, (drinks are extra). The menu normally includes salads, chilli, a full roast dinner and more besides plus a large variety of sweets .
One of our favourite spots in Spain is the Costa del Sol We highly recommend staying at Las Palmeras de Calahonda. at Calahonda as an excellent choice for Calahonda apartments. Calahonda is a mere 25 minutes drive from Malaga International Airport, reached via either the coast road or the toll road. Furthermore it is only 60 minutes from Gibraltar International Airport. Las Palmeras enjoys panoramic views, which sweep over open countryside and mountains to the Mediterranean Sea.
The apartments at Las Palmeras are of a luxury standard with superior marble flooring throughout. The majority have 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms, with a bath in each, shower over and double sinks.
For those holidaymakers who just want to relax quietly one can do worse than visit the harbours of Marbella and Puerto Banus. One of my favourite haunts is Calahonda’s own harbour, Puerto Cabopino, just 5 minutes along the coast road towards the island of Gibraltar.

There are many good new Dorset holiday cottages available to be rented this year for your holidays. It’s an excellent area of the country to visit for a holiday, with plenty to see and do. Here are just some of the brand new holiday cottages that have recently been added in Dorset.
The brand new Otter’s Holt is situated in Middlemarsh, in the very beautiful Rural Dorset. It adds to the other properties currently available in White Horse Farm, which is set in glorious Dorset countryside. The farm’s accommodation consists of a total of 4 barn conversions, a luxurious farmhouse annexe and Otter’s Holt, which is a three bedroomed log cabin that is new for 2009.
The farm is surrounded by 2 acres of gardens, which include a duck pond and paddock. There’s a large video library for visitors to use in the recreation room, along with a well stocked book library and various indoor and outdoor games to borrow to keep you busy. Cerne Abbas, Sherborne and Dorchester are all within easy reach of the farm and other attractions such as Lulworth Cove, Lyme Regis and Weymouth are all within easy reach. The nearest pub is only a few hundred yards from the farm.
Otter’s Holt itself will sleep up to 6 adults between its double bedroom and two twin bedrooms. There’s a bathroom, along with a well equipped kitchen and a large lounge. There’s also community garden furniture and barbeque facilities. If this cottage is too big for you, but you fancy the area or you are a large party wanting separate accommodation, then three of the cottages sleep only two people and the other two sleep 4 and 6 people each.
There are plenty of facilities on the farm and the Devon area is certainly lovely to visit with plenty of excellent, clean blue flag beaches and loads of other visitor attractions to keep all manner of families entertained. Try visiting the ponies in the New Forest or the Monkey sanctuary for a different kind of animal. Then there’s also Beaulieu for the car enthusiast and Buckler’s Hard to visit a museum based around a street which stands on the grounds where ships were built for the navy over 200 years ago.

We highly recommend staying at Las Palmeras de Calahonda. at Calahonda as an excellent choice for apartments in Calahonda. If you do not fancy moving too far away Calahonda has three commercial centres, which house most of the development’s 45 restaurants, cafeterias and pubs as well as seven banks and several supermarkets. Calahonda is known locally as one of the leading and most popular residential communities on the Costa del Sol, whose population swells significantly from just 14,000 to 45,000 in the high season. This of course ensures the migrant population is well catered for.

There are certainly many good new Dorset holiday cottages that have recently become available to be rented this year. Moving on, Laurel Dene is located in Ferndown situated in Rural Dorset. It comfortably sleeps up to 6 adults in the double bedroom with ensuite facilities and a single bedroom and also a family bedroom. There’s a lounge with an open fire and a separate well equipped kitchen along with a conservatory and enclosed rear garden.
The detached chalet bungalow holiday home also benefits from Sky TV and it’s only a short walk to the local shops, including some larger shops. Popular visitor attractions such as Bournemouth and the New Forest are only a short drive away and the market towns of Ringwood and Wimbourne are also close to the property.

The quality of apartments can vary so make sure you know what you are booking. There are varying types of rooms available ranging form studios to 1, 2 or even 3 bedrooms. Fully think about your needs before buying a holiday apartment. I always like to have more room than I need on holiday. So for example depending on price, for 2 persons, I tend to book a one bed roomed apartment rather than a studio. This provides that extra bit of space for your baggage.

Cebu Island with more than 400 kilometers of coastline and coral reefs developed over millions of years offers several marine sanctuaries with a teeming underwater world that can be explored only a few meters from the island’s shorelines. You will fall in love with the clear water, flourishing marine ecology, exotic tropical fish and abundant corals.
The most popular dive spots around Cebu are Mactan Island, Moalboal and Southwest Cebu, Sumilon and Southeast Cebu, Malapascua and Northern Cebu.
Mactan Island
Mactan is connected to Cebu City by 2 bridges and is the gateway to Central Philippines via the Cebu International Airport and is home to economic zones, sprawling five-star hotels and resorts, and glamorous restaurants. Most of the resorts on Mactan have in-house dive shops and offer diving at their house reefs. Just a short boat ride off the west coast of Mactan are several islets that have established fish sanctuaries that are excellent for diving.
Hilotongan Island is well known for the hundreds of batfish known to thrive there.
Gilutongan Island is a favorite for its resident schools of barracuda and great for taking scuba diving pictures.
Nalusuan Island nearby is famous for the stingray gliding through the water.
Olango Island boasts thresher sharks, dolphins, and various species of sea turtles and starfish.
Talima, the biggest sanctuary in Olango, stretches to 14 hectares and is home to parrot fish, groupers, mandarin and aquarium fish. The advantage Mactan has over the other beautiful dive spots around Cebu is its convenience and proximity to Cebu City.
Moalboal and Southwest Cebu
Approximately 3 hours southwest of Cebu City is the birthplace of Cebu scuba diving. The quiet little market town of Moalboal has drawn a large number of international divers since the early 1970’s.
It is definitely worth the trip from Cebu City as you will be rewarded with a large number of protected reefs to explore. There are at least 14 dive sites in the area that have been established over the years.
One of the most popular dive spots is Pescador Island which draws large barracuda, sea turtles, sharks, and frogfish. Depending on the season you might also meet up with whale sharks and manta rays.
Panagsama Beach is the primary area for a number of small resorts, pension houses, and dive shops. The house reefs at Panagsama Beach offer incredible night diving with eels, octopus, and sponge crabs making a great diving experience.
The magnificent and varied dive spots, superb opportunities for taking scuba diving pictures combined with reasonable prices and a easygoing atmosphere make Moalboal a must see for all scuba divers.
Sumilon and Southeast Cebu
Travel straight south on the highway out of Cebu City and you will hug the coastline and pass through several picturesque towns and small villages each unique in its own way. All of the towns have their own fish sanctuary with Sumilon Island having the oldest fish sanctuary in the country.
Sumilon lies just off the coast near the town of Boljoon and is largely overlooked by most tourists which means you’ll have the dive spot all to yourself. Boljoon is a quaint town about 2 1/2 hours south of Cebu City and offers the diver astonishing colorful coral gardens, eels, rare gobies and the chance to practice taking extraordinary scuba diving pictures.
Be sure to check out a few of the other towns in the area such as Santander with its aquarium-like Pasil Sanctuary and sharks and turtles, and Alcoy with its barrier reef at Tingko Beach.
Malapascua and Northern Cebu
Start your day with the skies tinged purple and the sun just starting to peek over the horizon.
On Malapascua Island divers gear up before sunrise to catch the thresher sharks at Monad Shoal. These rare sharks, with tails as long as their bodies, go to the shoal after breakfast to be serviced by the millions of cleaner wrasses that school there.
Divers usually go back after lunch to catch the manta rays at their own cleaning schedule. There is an underwater cave featuring sleeping black tip sharks at Gato Island.
There are a few excellent World War II wrecks nearby that make for good exploring and scuba diving pictures. Diving is also done in the neighboring town of Sogod, off Kapitansilyo in Bogo, and Tulang on Camotes Islands.
There is plenty waiting for you to see and scuba diving pictures to be taken under the glimmering seas surrounding sunny Cebu!
